It's Spring - Organize Outside Areas

As a writer or creative, you need breaks to think, relax, play, putter, read, and even work. As winter recedes, your outside areas become fair game for these activities. Whether you have your own backyard, a small balconey, or just a view , make your outside areas support you and your creative journey. Start with a shelf, a cupboard, or a small area and get it ready.

#1 - Relocate.

There may be some items that you haven't used in awhile simply because they're not easily accessed when you need them or you don't remember you have them. Relocate those items to a more convenient location. If after a month or two you still haven't used them, then let them go. Set a firm use-or-let-go-by-date.

#2 - Remove excess supplies.

AFTER

Grilling and conversation are the activities for this area. Only a few cleaning supplies are needed, so the rest were removed. Old products that were expired or no longer used were properly disposed of. In this case, there were no hazardous chemicals (pesticides, herbicides or other toxic garden supplies) so they were just thrown away.

But you may be coming across garden supplies so check with your local Environmental Management Department for your next Household Hazardous Waste Roundup event.

#3 - Recycle/Reuse/Re-purpose.

Some items can be reused in the garden or elsewhere. Let your imagination play this summer season. The grill cover which was never used is going to be recycled as a possible cover for outdoor furniture in another location. But if it doesn't work, it's gone.

This weekend start small. Start organizing your outdoor areas to focus on...

TODAY's activities.

Let go of yesterday's projects or tomorrow's maybes. Focus on those activities you can and will do this summer. Start with one small cupboard, one shelf or one corner. Enjoying your outdoor spaces can be as important as enjoying your indoor spaces.
